On the 8th (local time), President Yoon Suk-yeol visited Hyundai Motor's Global Innovation Center in the Jurong Innovation District of Singapore and said, "Hyundai Motor's approach of autonomous manufacturing combining artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics is leading new innovations."
According to the Presidential Office, this innovation center, completed in November last year, is a future-oriented factory where AI and robots manufacture in cells, unlike traditional automobile production plants using conveyor belt systems.
During his state visit to Singapore, President Yoon visited the innovation center to encourage the executives and employees of a company that is elevating South Korea's status overseas and to promote Korea's excellent AI autonomous manufacturing technology.
Upon arriving at the innovation center, President Yoon inspected the autonomous vehicle production process led by AI and robots, guided by Hyundai Motor Chairman Chung Eui-sun. He also exchanged opinions with the staff while observing the 'digital twin factory,' which operates and manages the factory in a virtual space using data generated from the plant.
At a meeting with researchers and related personnel at the innovation center, President Yoon said, "I am confident that the innovation center will become a model case of a future factory where simple manufacturing transitions to AI autonomous manufacturing," and added, "The government will actively support efforts to dramatically improve the productivity of South Korea's manufacturing industry through the spread of AI."
The event was attended by Hyundai Motor Chairman Chung Eui-sun, President Jang Jae-hoon, and Advisor Sung Kim. From the government side, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choi Sang-mok, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Ahn Deok-geun, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yeol accompanied the visit.
