Pocheon-si Announces Public Contest for Livelihood Regulation Innovation... 5 Outstanding Cases Finalized Pocheon City Hall exterior.

Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Young-hyun) announced on the 8th that it has conducted the 2024 Pocheon City Public Regulation Innovation Contest and finally selected five outstanding cases.

Pocheon City has been promoting the contest since May to improve regulations related to the daily lives and economic activities of companies or citizens. The contest covers three areas: employment and jobs, settlement and employment of foreign workers, and proposals for improving regulations related to citizen safety.

The Pocheon City Regulatory Reform Committee reviewed the submitted contest entries based on evaluation criteria such as creativity, feasibility, and effectiveness, and finally selected one grand prize winner, two excellence awards, and two encouragement awards.

The selected outstanding cases are ▲Relaxation of income investigation criteria for supporters of basic livelihood security recipients (Grand Prize) ▲Abolition of restrictions on social security service occupational pension recipients (Excellence) ▲Abolition of overtaking lane and low-speed driving regulations on two-lane one-way highways (Excellence) ▲Expansion of applicants for viewing or issuing moving-in household confirmation certificates (Encouragement) ▲Promotion of women's economic activities through relaxation of usage fee regulations for shared property at the Women's Economic Activity Support Center (Encouragement).

In particular, the grand prize-winning case of relaxing the income investigation criteria for supporters of basic livelihood security recipients explained that due to factors such as the rise in minimum wage and inflation, the annual income criteria for supporters of basic livelihood benefits have also been relaxed to stabilize the livelihood of low-income groups and thereby eliminate welfare blind spots.

Mayor Baek Young-hyun of Pocheon City said, “Among the submitted tasks, we plan to prepare improvement measures for local ordinances and propose improvements to relevant central government ministries for central laws to ensure that regulations are improved.” He added, “We will continue to discover and improve unreasonable regulations to enhance citizens' quality of life and lead regional development.”
