Incheon City announced on the 8th that it will establish a more systematic management system by applying artificial intelligence (AI) technology to temperature management of pharmaceutical storage devices in island area health centers.
Temperature management is essential for pharmaceutical storage devices such as those for vaccines, but currently, health clinics in island areas manage temperatures manually by administrative staff, highlighting the ongoing need for automation. Accordingly, the city plans to secure the stability of pharmaceuticals by introducing a temperature management system utilizing AI technology.
Most of the currently used "automated temperature management systems for pharmaceutical storage devices" on the market provide alert services only after the temperature deviates from the set range.
However, the newly introduced AI-based system learns temperature data and provides alerts via mobile applications before the temperature deviates from the set range. This enables preemptive responses and prevents pharmaceutical waste.
This system also collects real-time temperature data through Internet of Things (IoT) technology, allowing temperature checks anytime via websites and smartphones. In the future, with the addition of blockchain technology, it will be possible to prevent tampering and falsification of the collected temperature data, further enhancing the reliability of pharmaceutical management.
The city plans to apply this technology to 16 health centers and clinics on islands in Ongjin County, including Soyeonpyeongdo, by the end of this month, and to operate it on a hospital ship to be constructed by May next year. This project is part of the "Development of Bio-Intelligent IoT (AIoT) Logistics Platform," selected by Incheon City in May as a Ministry of Science and ICT public contest project.
An Incheon City official stated, "Island areas face greater medical disparities with the mainland due to lack of facilities and equipment," adding, "Through this project, we will support the efficiency of health administration and digital innovation in island area healthcare."
