Yeoju Foreigners Welfare Center is holding the '3rd Migrant Autumn Sports Day' at Yeheung Elementary School. The Foreigners' Welfare Center in Yeoju City, Gyeonggi Province (Center Director Jin Jaepil) announced on the 7th that it held the "3rd Migrant Autumn Sports Day" at Yeoheung Elementary School on the 6th.
The event was attended by Yeoju Mayor Lee Chung-woo, Yeoju City Council Chairman Park Doohyung, members of the Yeoju City Council, and officials from related organizations, who encouraged the foreign residents.
Mayor Lee Chung-woo of Yeoju said, "We will create a happy city where more than 6,000 foreign residents and locals alike are not left out and can live well together." The attendees responded with great applause to the city administration's goal of working together with foreign and multicultural residents.
About 300 foreign residents from 15 countries living in Yeoju participated in the event, which consisted of sports activities promoting unity among foreign residents, such as large ball rolling and group jump rope. Unlike typical sports competitions focused on rivalry and winning, this event was a festival where participants "ran together" and "rejoiced together."
There are about 6,120 foreign residents living in Yeoju, and to support their welfare, Yeoju opened the Foreigners' Welfare Center in 2021, providing various support services such as counseling, interpretation, and Korean language education.
