U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris highlighted the issue of 'abortion rights' and launched an attack against her competitor, former President Donald Trump, one month ahead of the November election.
In an interview on the popular podcast "Call Her Daddy" released on the 6th (local time), Vice President Harris criticized, "Trump is the person who said women who have abortions should be punished." This was a sarcastic remark aimed at former President Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, who claimed at a Pennsylvania rally last month, "I will be your protector."
Vice President Harris said, "When Trump was president, he directly appointed three conservative Supreme Court justices with the intention of overturning 'Roe v. Wade,' which recognized women's abortion rights. And they did exactly what Trump intended," adding, "There are now 20 states that have issued 'Trump abortion bans.'" She also argued, "The reason the U.S. became a strong nation was through the fight to expand rights, not through restricting rights such as abortion."
Along with this, Vice President Harris criticized Republican vice presidential candidate Senator J.D. Vance for disparaging her in the past as a "childless cat lady," calling it "vile" and "mean and mean-spirited." Vice President Harris has no biological children with her husband Doug Emhoff. However, she mentioned that she lovingly raised Emhoff’s two children from his previous marriage, emphasizing, "There is family by blood, and there is family by love. I have both."
"Call Her Daddy," the podcast featuring Vice President Harris, is especially popular among Generation Z for its candid conversations. Recently, it has focused on topics such as "women" and "mental health," and rarely interviews politicians. This interview was conducted with a focus on the abortion rights issue, which is a key topic in this election. The Washington Post (WP) evaluated it as "showing the Harris campaign's effort to reach female and young voters." Vice President Harris, who has been criticized for avoiding media interviews, will also appear consecutively on CBS's "60 Minutes" and ABC's "The View," which are scheduled to be released the following day.
During the podcast broadcast, host Alex Cooper confirmed that they also invited former President Trump to appear to discuss abortion rights. While Vice President Harris has pledged federal legislation to protect abortion rights, former President Trump, who has been an open "abortion opponent," has shown a somewhat ambiguous stance to avoid making abortion rights a contentious issue ahead of this election.
Meanwhile, former President Trump campaigned in Wisconsin on the same day, claiming, "In just 30 days, we will win," and asserted, "Harris is seriously incompetent. If she stays for four more years, your long nightmare will begin." He also called Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who appeared at a Butler rally the day before urging support by saying "If Trump loses, basic rights will disappear," a "good person."
