Pilot Operation Starting from 2024 Industrial Festival on the 10th
City-Hosted Festivals and Events with Over 500 Participants Eligible
In Ulsan, single-use cups will disappear from public events attended by more than 500 people. The 'Reusable Container Circulation System' project, aimed at reducing single-use waste, is being launched in Ulsan.
The Ulsan city government announced on the 7th that it will begin a pilot operation of the 'Reusable Container Circulation Service' starting with the 2024 Industrial Festival to be held on the 10th.
This project is a circular solution that covers the entire lifecycle of reusable containers, from rental and collection to washing and redistribution, to reduce single-use waste.
As part of the pilot project, the use of single-use items will be banned at city-hosted events or festivals with more than 500 participants in the future. When food and beverages are provided, reusable containers must be used. The city also plans to reduce the use of single-use items at funeral halls.
Going forward, Ulsan plans to sign a business agreement for the 'Funeral Hall Reusable Container Support Project' and establish itself as a green environmental city by minimizing single-use waste through the reuse of containers.
An official from Ulsan said, "There is a consensus that we need to reduce plastic waste, but in reality, it is not being followed. We are working to establish an eco-friendly circulation service that fits the city well, so that it is not inconvenient and still protects the environment."
The reusable containers are made of stainless steel that can be washed at high temperatures. SJ System Co., Ltd. (CEO Woo Seungjun), which has signed a service contract with Ulsan city, will provide the rentals, and the used containers will be collected, sterilized, washed, and redistributed.
