Park Daesung's Claim of "Drinking 4 Bottles of Soju" is False... Police Confirm "Only 2 Bottles Consumed"

Park Daesung (30), who killed a teenage girl he had never met for no reason, was found to have lied about drinking four bottles of soju at the time of the crime.

According to the Suncheon Police Station on the 6th, the police conducted a search and seizure at Park Daesung's store in Jorye-dong, Suncheon-si, Jeollanam-do on the 28th of last month. At the time of the search, there were side dishes and four bottles of soju on the table of the closed store, and only two of the bottles were completely empty. Among the remaining two bottles, one had its cap opened but the soju remained untouched, and the other bottle was unopened.

Before attending the warrant hearing (pre-trial detention interrogation) on the 26th of last month, Park Daesung told the police during an investigation, "I drank about four bottles of soju, so I don't remember (the crime)."

A police official said, "He testified that he drank four bottles of soju, so we went to the store to verify this," adding, "There is doubt about whether he was truly intoxicated at the time of the crime as he claimed."

Park Daesung was reported to have met with the police for about five minutes due to a suspected extreme self-harm report just before the crime, and it was revealed that he committed the murder only about 20 minutes after the meeting. According to the police, at around 12:15 a.m. on the 24th of last month, Park Daesung's older brother called 119, reporting "I suspect my younger brother is attempting extreme self-harm," and the police responded to the request for cooperation. However, the police, finding no signs indicating a suicide attempt, closed the case on-site without further action and left.

However, Park Daesung stayed inside the store for eight minutes after the police left, then came out and followed the victim, A (18), who was walking nearby. At around 12:44 a.m., he killed A, meaning he committed the murder about 20 minutes after directly facing the police. After the crime, Park Daesung wandered around bars and karaoke rooms for about two hours carrying a weapon, and kicked a parked car without reason, which led to a dispute with the car owner who witnessed it. He was arrested by the police who responded to the report. Park Daesung was transferred to the prosecution on the 4th on charges of murder.

On the 30th of last month, the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency held a personal information disclosure review committee and decided to disclose Park Daesung's personal information, recognizing the brutality of the crime and the seriousness of the damage.
