Seocho-gu Offers Free Influenza Vaccinations

Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will conduct free influenza vaccinations for the ’24~’25 season targeting seniors, pregnant women, children, and vulnerable groups who are at high risk of severe illness from influenza infection, in preparation for this winter's influenza outbreak.

The free vaccination targets are ▲children aged 6 months to 13 years (born between November 1, 2011, and August 31, 2024) ▲seniors aged 65 and older (born on or before December 31, 1959) ▲pregnant women ▲and Seocho-gu residents born between January 1, 1960, and December 31, 2010, who have severe disabilities, receive basic livelihood security benefits, or are national veterans. Vaccination start dates will be separated by target group and age.

First, children who require two doses of the vaccine to acquire immunity (children aged 6 months to under 9 years who are receiving the vaccine for the first time or have only received one influenza vaccine dose in the past) have been receiving vaccinations since September 20. Children eligible for one dose and pregnant women can receive free vaccinations from October 2 until April next year.

For seniors aged 65 and older, sequential vaccinations by age group will begin on October 11, on the same day as COVID-19 vaccinations, and simultaneous administration of both vaccines is recommended. Seniors aged 65 and older can receive vaccinations from October 11 to April next year according to age: ▲75 and older from October 11 ▲70 to 74 from October 15 ▲65 to 69 from October 18.

Additionally, Seocho-gu residents born between January 1, 1960, and December 31, 2010, who have severe disabilities, receive basic livelihood security benefits, or are national veterans can receive free quadrivalent influenza vaccines from October 23 through December this year.

The district plans to continue promotional activities to encourage vaccinations, especially strengthening outreach through mail and social networking services (SNS) to seniors aged 65 and older, those with severe disabilities, basic livelihood security recipients, and national veterans.

This free influenza vaccination is available at designated medical institutions within the district, and nearby designated medical institutions can be checked on the Vaccination Helper website.

Meanwhile, to prevent incorrect vaccinations and ensure safe administration, visitors to vaccination sites must bring identification. Children should bring a resident registration certificate or National Health Insurance card, and pregnant women can also verify with a maternity handbook. Starting this season, an electronic preliminary questionnaire has been introduced, allowing recipients to conveniently complete the questionnaire at home before vaccination.

For more details, contact the Seocho-gu Public Health Center Vaccination Project Call Center or designated medical institutions.

Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, “Influenza vaccination is a very effective means to reduce hospitalizations, deaths, and disease burden caused by influenza,” and added, “We urge residents to actively participate in this vaccination to prevent influenza outbreaks and have a healthy winter.”
