Ministry of the Interior and Safety Conducts Comprehensive Safety Inspection
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 5th that it will work closely with related agencies to ensure thorough safety management in preparation for the '2024 Seoul World Fireworks Festival' held around Yeouido Hangang Park in Seoul.
Marking its 20th edition this year, the Seoul World Fireworks Festival will open with a ceremony at 7 PM and the fireworks show will continue until 8:30 PM. After the event, a clean campaign involving order guidance and garbage collection will conclude the festival.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety stated that more than one million people are expected to attend the fireworks festival, making thorough safety management essential to prevent crowd congestion accidents.
On the 4th and 5th, the Ministry, together with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, police, fire department, and other related agencies, conducted a joint inspection covering overall safety management areas such as situation monitoring, crowd control, traffic management, and emergency rescue. Any risks identified during the inspection were addressed and remedied before the festival began.
Minister Lee Sang-min of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety also visited the site on the day, chaired a safety measures inspection meeting, and conducted a final check of on-site safety management. During the meeting, he focused on measures to disperse entry and exit points at the venue, manage crowd congestion at subway stations, communication methods between emergency broadcast facilities and on-site staff, and transportation plans in case of emergencies. Additionally, while inspecting the Hangang Park event area, he confirmed the securing of emergency vehicle access routes, installation of safety fences, and deployment of safety personnel.
Minister Lee urged, "We will do our utmost to ensure safety management until visitors enjoy the festival and return home safely, and we ask the public participating in the festival to actively cooperate with on-site order maintenance guidance."
