Additional Lumpyskin Cases Reported at Hanwoo Farm in Goseong, Gangwon... 8 Cases This Year

"Yanggu, Goseong Occur for 2 Consecutive Years"

Lumpy skin disease has newly occurred in Goseong-gun, Gangwon Province.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 5th that lumpy skin disease occurred at a Korean cattle farm located in Goseong-gun, Gangwon Province on the 4th. This is just one day after lumpy skin disease was confirmed in Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi Province, and Yangyang-gun, Gangwon Province on the 3rd.

With this, the total number of lumpy skin disease cases confirmed in livestock farms this year has increased to eight, and Gangwon Province has recorded 10 cases over the past two years since last year.

To prevent the spread of lumpy skin disease, the Ministry dispatched an initial response team and an epidemiological investigation team to the farm to restrict access and conduct an epidemiological investigation. Among the 81 cattle raised on the farm, those infected with lumpy skin disease will be culled according to the emergency standard operating procedure (SOP).

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs issued a temporary movement suspension order until midnight on the same day for livestock facility workers and vehicles in three adjacent cities/counties (Sokcho, Inje, Yanggu) near Goseong-gun. Additionally, emergency vaccination will be carried out for cattle farms in Sokcho-si, which is adjacent to Goseong-gun.

A Gangwon Province official said, "This is a serious situation where the spread of lumpy skin disease is a concern, with additional cases occurring in Goseong the day before, following Yanggu on September 11 and Yangyang on October 3. Among the seven infected farms last year, two cities/counties including Yanggu and Goseong have experienced cases for two consecutive years, which raises greater concern."

A Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs official requested, "Related agencies and local governments should thoroughly manage quarantine measures such as vector insect control and ensure thorough vaccination."
