Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun is speaking at the opening ceremony of the 61st Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival held at Hwaseong Haenggung on the 4th.
The Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, with a tradition of 60 years, opened on the 4th. Lee Jae-jun, the mayor of Suwon, stated, "We will develop the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival into a festival shared with citizens and people around the world."
Mayor Lee Jae-jun attended the opening ceremony of the '61st Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival' held at the special stage in Haenggung Square that evening and said, "The Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, which began in 1964, has now become a representative festival of Korea and a pride of Suwon," adding, "Over the next three days, you will be able to experience Korea's history and traditional culture, Suwon Hwaseong embodying King Jeongjo's ideals, and the beautiful city of Suwon."
The Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival proceeded with Mayor Lee Jae-jun's welcoming speech, followed by ▲ the ‘Gyoryonggi’ Gyeyang performance, which was erected when the king traveled ▲ the main performance ‘Suwon Fantasy - Nakseongyeon: Sanghadongrak’ ▲ a meeting between Mayor Lee Jae-jun and citizens ▲ and the Maehwapo fire play.
This event will be held until the 6th of this month at Hwaseong Haenggung, Haenggung Square, and around Suwon Hwaseong.
Representative programs include the ‘Immersive Art Performance Hwaryeong’ held at Hwaryeongjeon, where King Jeongjo’s portrait is enshrined, the pansori story play ‘Hyoyeonjeon: Dyed in Filial Piety’ held at Bongsudang, and the ‘Suwon Palan Race.’ Various performances, experiences, and exhibitions will take place throughout the Hwaseong Haenggung area.
The festival will conclude with the joint reenactment of King Jeongjo’s royal procession and the closing ceremony of the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, held at 7:30 PM on the 6th at the special stage in Haenggung Square.
