WSJ "Musk Donates Large Sum to Republican Party"
"Due to Anger Over Transgender Daughter"
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has been donating to the Republican Party long before publicly expressing support for former President Donald Trump, and reports suggest this is due to anger over his transgender daughter who abandoned his surname. Musk had previously supported Democratic President Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on the 2nd (local time) that Musk donated $50 million (about 66 billion KRW) around the fall of 2022 to a group called "Citizens for Common Sense," linked to Stephen Miller, a former senior advisor in the Trump administration. WSJ explained that Musk had been a major funding source for various Republican organizations and candidates long before supporting former President Trump in this election.
The group used the donations to run ad campaigns attacking the Democrats on controversial issues such as policies on underage transgender individuals and illegal immigrants ahead of the U.S. midterm elections in November 2022. Musk is also reported to have donated $10 million (about 1.3 billion KRW) last year to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who was considered a rival to former President Trump during the Republican presidential primary.
Although Musk supported Democratic candidate Joe Biden in the 2020 election, he shifted to supporting Trump in this election. While some speculate this shift was due to the Biden administration's neglect of Tesla, which lacks a union, there is also analysis suggesting that his anger over his transgender daughter, who abandoned his surname in 2022, was the cause of this change.
Musk's transgender daughter, known as Vivian Jenna Wilson (20), officially severed ties with Musk upon transitioning to female. She abandoned her original name, Xavier Musk, and took her mother's surname. Instead of using X (formerly Twitter), she uses Threads, a competing platform launched by Meta.
Regarding this, Musk said in an interview, "When Wilson was 16, I was deceived into approving gender reassignment surgery and lost my son," adding, "This led me to decide to destroy leftist ideology, and I have made some progress."
