Emergency landing 24 minutes after takeoff due to smoke... No casualties reported
T'way Air experiences 2-hour delay with replacement flight deployed
Recent consecutive delays caused by aircraft defects
On the 4th, a T'way Air flight bound for Jeju returned to Gimpo International Airport shortly after takeoff due to smoke detected inside the cabin. The TW723 flight (B737-800), which took off at 2:25 PM, made an emergency landing about 24 minutes after departure. There were 158 passengers on board the aircraft, but no casualties were reported.
T'way Air is investigating the cause of the fire on the aircraft and plans to conduct a thorough inspection before putting the plane back into service. Additionally, the airline deployed another aircraft to operate a replacement flight, which took off around 4:30 PM, resulting in approximately a two-hour departure delay. T'way Air apologized for the inconvenience caused by the unavoidable safety inspection and stated that compensation procedures will be carried out according to regulations.
Recently, T'way Air has been facing growing passenger concerns due to consecutive flight delays. In particular, since the A330-200 aircraft was transferred from Korean Air, there have been a total of seven delays over three months caused by maintenance or aircraft defects.
The delay incidents include ▲45 minutes at Gimpo Airport on June 1 ▲1 hour 11 minutes at Gimpo Airport on June 21 ▲4 hours 57 minutes at Narita Airport, Japan on July 28 ▲1 hour 13 minutes at Incheon Airport on August 11 ▲21 hours 37 minutes at Paris Airport on August 28 ▲4 hours 9 minutes at Jeju Airport on September 8 ▲3 hours 55 minutes at Jeju Airport on September 10.
On the 29th of last month, the TW713 passenger flight from Gimpo to Jeju was delayed by 3 hours and 9 minutes, which was also explained as due to a safety inspection. Furthermore, in August, a Paris flight experienced a delay of over 20 hours due to an aircraft malfunction.
