Lee Mayor Requests "Public Housing Promotion Team Leader and Vice Mayor to Take Charge of Resolution"... Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Responds
On the 2nd, Lee Hyun-jae, Mayor of Hanam City, Gyeonggi Province, met with Park Sang-woo, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, to discuss current issues such as Hanam Gyosan Gam-il New Town and metropolitan transportation. On the 4th, Lee Hyun-jae, mayor of Hanam City, Gyeonggi Province, announced that he met with Park Sang-woo, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, on the 2nd to discuss current issues such as the Hanam Gyosan and Gam-il new towns and metropolitan transportation.
This meeting was the second since Park Sang-woo took office as Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in January. Mayor Lee pointed out that although four new towns including Hanam Misa and Gyosan are being promoted, the promises initially announced by the government have not been fulfilled, causing great dissatisfaction among citizens, and he requested a prompt resolution.
Regarding the 3rd phase new town Gyosan district, he emphasized the problem of the project area being divided north and south due to the exclusion of the Jungbu Expressway Meeting Plaza, and requested the establishment of fundamental measures to address this issue.
He also requested support to expand the industrial area allocation (from 7% to 42%), which is relatively insufficient compared to other new towns such as Bucheon Daejang (76%) and Incheon Gyeyang (60%), to enhance self-sufficiency functions in line with the government’s announcement of “a city that creates jobs, a city made together with the region.”
He asked the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to mediate and support the preparation of reinvestment plans for development profits into living SOC facilities promised at the time of the new town announcement, the lawsuit for the return of waste treatment facilities currently in dispute with LH, and the additional payment for the expansion of the Gam-il sewage treatment facility.
Regarding the metropolitan transportation measures for Gyosan New Town, he reiterated the problem of the north-south division caused by the exclusion of the Jungbu Expressway Meeting Plaza, requested the relocation of the Songpa-Hanam Line 104 station further north, and asked for the reflection of six measures proposed by Hanam City to change the metropolitan transportation improvement plan. He actively requested the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to install soundproof tunnels around the Jungbu Expressway and the 1st Ring Expressway areas, extend the Wirye-Sinsa Line to Hanam, prioritize the construction of the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway Hanam section, and establish an entrance passing through Oryun Intersection.
Mayor Lee Hyun-jae requested Minister Park Sang-woo to assign a dedicated team between the Ministry’s Public Housing Promotion Division head and Hanam City’s vice mayor to promptly resolve the new town issues in Hanam City.
In response, Minister Park Sang-woo positively replied, “I fully empathize with the new town issues in Hanam City and will ensure that the head of the Public Housing Promotion Division and the vice mayor can resolve the current issues.” He especially expressed understanding of the problem of the Gyosan New Town being divided north and south by the expressway and stated that they will jointly review the necessity of establishing measures to overcome the division of living zones.
