Kakao Partners with Ministry of Health and Welfare for 'Senior Digital School' Project

Kakao announced on the 4th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Health and Welfare to expand digital inclusion for seniors through the 'Senior Digital School' project.

The Senior Digital School is one of the flagship programs promoted under the group’s integrated win-win business slogan, "Closer, Kakao," announced last month. Kakao, in collaboration with the Korea Association of Senior Welfare Centers and the Senior Financial Education Council, supports the creation and distribution of dedicated textbooks and education programs for the elderly, who have low digital familiarity and find it difficult to use services. This program expands the curriculum and educational regions of Kakao Pay’s existing senior financial education program, 'Sagaksagak Pay School.'

Based on this agreement, Kakao and the Ministry of Health and Welfare will collaborate in various ways, including ▲distributing 100,000 copies of senior-tailored educational textbooks ▲providing on-site education at 100 senior institutions nationwide, such as comprehensive senior welfare centers ▲and supplying digital education kits.

The senior-tailored educational textbooks consist of four chapters: ▲Enjoying communication with family and friends ▲Moving comfortably and quickly to desired places ▲Using finance easily and safely with a smartphone ▲Convenient access to public services without visits. The textbooks provide easy-to-understand instructions on how to use lifestyle and public services such as KakaoTalk, KakaoT, Kakao Pay, and Bokjiro.

Kakao plans to produce a total of 100,000 copies from October this year through the first half of next year and donate them to over 300 senior welfare centers nationwide through the Korea Association of Senior Welfare Centers. Starting next month, on-site education will be provided to 100 locations, including senior welfare centers. Applications for textbooks and education can be made through the Korea Association of Senior Welfare Centers’ intranet starting from the 8th of this month.

Lee Ki-il, First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, said, “As digital device distribution expands across society, concerns about inconveniences faced by the elderly arise. I hope this MOU will lead to substantial digital education,” adding, “We will continue to implement various policies to strengthen digital accessibility for seniors.”

Meanwhile, Kakao and the Ministry of Health and Welfare signed an MOU in 2021 to improve the convenience and activation of the 'My Health Record' app, and last year, Kakao Healthcare participated in the 'Korea-US Digital & Biohealth Business Forum' hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, continuing efforts to enhance public welfare through multifaceted technological cooperation.
