Expansion of Childbirth Incentives... Up to 20 Million Won Support for Fifth Child and Beyond
Postpartum Care Subsidy Expanded to 500,000 Won in Local Currency + 500,000 Won in Cash
Gyeonggi Hanam City (Mayor Lee Hyun-jae) announced on the 4th that it will provide up to 2 million KRW in support for couples undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART) using frozen eggs for pregnancy and childbirth, even before a diagnosis of infertility, for the purpose of fertility preservation.
The ‘Assisted Reproductive Technology Using Frozen Eggs’ support project is a program that subsidizes medical procedure costs for using previously frozen eggs for pregnancy to preserve fertility.
Since April this year, Hanam City has been supporting couples attempting pregnancy and childbirth using frozen eggs, even if they have not been diagnosed with infertility, by providing up to 1 million KRW per procedure, twice per couple, under the ‘Assisted Reproductive Technology Using Frozen Eggs’ program.
The scope of support includes ▲thawing of frozen eggs ▲sperm collection ▲fertilization and confirmation ▲embryo culture and observation ▲embryo transfer ▲post-procedure stage testing fees, etc.
If diagnosed with infertility, support is provided up to the thawing process of frozen eggs. In this case, the remaining costs can be supported in connection with the ‘Infertile Couples Procedure Cost Support Project.’
Couples wishing to receive support can apply by visiting the Misa Health Center at Hanam City Public Health Center or applying online through the e-Health Center after completing the assisted reproductive procedure using frozen eggs, without prior application.
However, common-law couples or couples diagnosed with infertility must apply in advance for the Infertile Couples Procedure Cost Support Project.
For detailed information regarding support for assisted reproductive technology using frozen eggs, inquiries can be made to the Maternal and Child Health Team at Misa Health Center.
Mayor Lee Hyun-jae stated, “This support project was initiated to make Hanam City a good place to have and raise children,” and emphasized, “Hanam City will make various policy efforts to ensure that couples willing to have children can build precious families without difficulties.”
Meanwhile, in addition to the frozen egg usage ART support project this year, Hanam City also newly launched the ‘Medical Expense Support Project for Discontinued Infertility Procedures’ starting in May.
The Medical Expense Support Project for Discontinued Infertility Procedures is designed to support infertile households who could not receive infertility procedure cost support due to medical reasons (such as occurrence of empty follicles) causing discontinuation of infertility procedures. Applicants for this project can receive up to 500,000 KRW covering their own expenses excluding the National Health Insurance contribution, some non-covered costs, and medication fees, with no limit on the number of applications.
Additionally, Hanam City is implementing policies to reduce the financial burden on families with newborns, including ▲expansion of childbirth incentives (up to 20 million KRW for the fifth child and beyond) ▲expansion of postpartum care support (local currency 500,000 KRW → local currency 500,000 KRW + cash 500,000 KRW).
