Global Online Video Service Exchange, Busan 'International OTT Festival' Opens

Held from 4th to 6th at Busan Cinema Center and Haeundae area... City and Ministry of Science and ICT host global networking for K-OTT's overseas expansion

OTT industry exchange including 'International OTT Summit', 'Investment Showcase', and 'Asia Contents Awards & Global OTT Awards'

Busan Metropolitan City, together with the Ministry of Science and ICT, will host the 'International Streaming Festival' from the 4th to the 6th for three days at the outdoor theater of the Busan Cinema Center and throughout the Haeundae area.

Now in its second year, this event has been established as a platform for international exchange to promote the development of the domestic online video service (OTT) industry, enhance the global recognition of Korean OTT content, and expand opportunities for overseas advancement.


This year, under the theme 'Streaming the Future,' the festival will feature a variety of events for exchange within the OTT industry, including the 'International OTT Summit,' 'Investment Showcase,' '2024 Asia Contents Awards & Global OTT Awards (ACA & Global OTT Awards),' and 'OTT House.'


In particular, the international awards ceremony, which recognizes outstanding content that has garnered global attention, will kick off its spectacular event at 6 p.m. on the 6th at the outdoor theater of the Busan Cinema Center. This year, the awards have been reorganized into 11 competitive categories and 4 invited categories, with 41 nominees from 10 countries selected out of a total of 201 entries from 16 countries in the competitive categories.


Actor Kang Ki-young and Tiffany Young have been confirmed as hosts for the awards ceremony, and the lineup includes last year's winners such as Best Actor Ryu Seung-ryong and Best New Actor Lee Jungha, among other distinguished guests.


Domestic and international artists, producers, and OTT platform representatives are expected to gather for the event, with a variety of programs including a red carpet event and celebration performances prepared.

The 'International OTT Summit' will begin with a keynote speech by Tony Gunnarsson, Senior Analyst at the global research group Omdia, on key trends and future prospects in the global online media market.


▲Business strategies of major domestic and international OTT platforms such as TVING, VIU, Rakuten Viki, and Tubi, and ▲case studies on media tech applications by Dexter Studio and Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, will provide insights into the future of Korean OTT.


The 'Investment Showcase' will feature presentations of outstanding proposals from 17 companies, offer promotional opportunities for investment to 11 media tech companies, and create a practical investment platform through one-on-one business meetings.


Shim Jaemin, Director of Culture and Sports of the city, stated, "This event is expected to become an important milestone that goes beyond a simple event to illuminate the future of the domestic OTT industry and strengthen its competitiveness in the global market," adding, "To this end, the city will continue its efforts to discover outstanding content and enhance business connections."
