'Close Call' Drunk Man Asleep on Street... Wrapped Tightly by 2m Bidanbaem Snake

Wrapped by a 2m, 20kg Burmese python
Rescued with 120 personnel mobilized
Rescue team advises "Do not touch snakes if found, report immediately"

A man in China was dramatically rescued after being constricted by a giant python.

According to local media including China.com on the 3rd (local time), a man was attacked by a python on the afternoon of the 28th of last month in a residential area of Huizhou City, Guangdong Province. He was lying on the street intoxicated when the snake wrapped around his body. In the released video, the python slowly wrapped around the barefoot man lying on the asphalt road and began to squeeze. Soon, it surrounded his entire body, creating a dangerous scene.

A passerby who witnessed the scene reported it to the rescue team, and 120 personnel including police and firefighters were dispatched to the scene to rescue the man. Using equipment, they removed the giant python, measuring 2 meters in length and weighing 20 kg, from his body. The police asked, "Why were you wrapped by the snake while intoxicated?" but the man could not answer as he had no memory. He reportedly refused hospital transfer, stating "I am in good health," and went home.

The police are investigating whether the python came from the wild or was kept by someone at home. Residents are presumed to believe the snake came from a nearby wetland park. The rescue team said, "Coincidentally, the incident occurred right next to a river," adding, "There are many snakes living around the river, so this kind of incident seems to have happened. Although pythons rarely attack people first, please do not touch snakes if you find them and report them."

Meanwhile, in Guangdong Province in July 2017, a 2.6-meter-long, 13-kg python entered a home and swallowed a whole chicken. At that time, the police captured the snake alive and safely released it into a nearby nature reserve. Also, in 2016, in a village in Fujian Province, a 5-meter-long, 27-kg python caught and ate two goats raised by a farmer. The snake swallowed an 18-kg goat in one bite, struggled, was caught by villagers, took commemorative photos with them, and was then released into the forest. Currently, China has designated pythons as an endangered species and banned all commercial trade of them.
