Fireworks in Splendor, Safety in Thoroughness... Yeongdeungpo-gu Fully Supports the 'Seoul World Fireworks Festival'

October 5th Yeouido Hangang Park, Seoul World Fireworks Festival Fully Prepared... Citizen Safety Priority
7 Departments, Total 342 Personnel Deployed... Support Measures for On-site Complaints, Street Cleaning, Illegal Vendors and Parking Enforcement... Crowd Control Focused... Rapid Communication System Using Disaster Safety Network and Real-time On-site CCTV Monitoring

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it is establishing support measures in various fields ahead of the ‘2024 Seoul World Fireworks Festival’ to be held at Yeouido Hangang Park on October 5, and is making every effort to prevent safety accidents.

The ‘Seoul World Fireworks Festival’ is a large-scale fireworks festival held annually around Yeouido Hangang Park in Seoul since 2000. This year’s festival is hosted by Hanwha Group and SBS, sponsored by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and will take place from 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM on October 5. Various pre-events involving citizens will be held from 1:00 PM, and the main fireworks show will begin at 7:00 PM. This year, three countries?Korea, the United States, and Japan?will participate, presenting a spectacular show under the theme ‘You who paint your dreams like colorful fireworks.’

More than one million spectators visit Yeouido every year to enjoy the fireworks that beautifully color the autumn night sky, and especially this year, the ‘Seoul Light Hangang Light Island Festival’ will also be held together, so an even larger crowd is expected.

Accordingly, the district is making every effort to prepare for safety accidents more thoroughly than in previous years. The district has prepared support measures divided into seven major fields: ▲administrative support ▲cleaning support ▲street maintenance ▲traffic order ▲public relations ▲safety support ▲medical support, deploying a total of 342 personnel to promptly respond to various accidents and complaints.

In particular, to prevent safety accidents caused by congestion and crowd density at the event site, the support system has been strengthened. The district uses the disaster safety communication network to establish a rapid contact system among related organizations and monitors the site in real time through CCTV in the disaster safety situation room. If a crowd density risk is detected, disaster messages are immediately sent to ensure citizens’ safety.

Also, to create a clean and pleasant festival environment, about 140 personnel are organized to carry out environmental maintenance around Yeouido. Even after the festival ends, the district maintains the street appearance through post-management such as waste collection and road washing.

Next, to maintain smooth traffic order, illegal parking and stopping will be strictly monitored, focusing on sections with severe vehicle congestion such as near Yeouinaru Station, the 63 Building, and Mapo Bridge.

Additionally, street maintenance will continue to provide a safe walking environment and prevent safety accidents caused by illegal street vendors.

To respond to on-site complaints, support situation rooms for each field will be operated, installed adjacent to related organizations’ booths such as the Comprehensive Safety Headquarters and Fire Disaster Headquarters, to respond quickly in case of emergencies.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “We will do our best in support and cooperation in each field so that citizens can safely and enjoyably watch the Seoul World Fireworks Festival until the end,” and added, “Since a large crowd is expected, we ask for the active cooperation of citizens in safety management.”
