Five Major Automakers Sold 670,000 Units Last Month... Five Consecutive Months of Decline

Domestic and Export Slump Together

The global sales performance of five domestic automakers last month showed a decline for the fifth consecutive month due to sluggish domestic demand and a decrease in operating days caused by the Chuseok holiday.

According to Hyundai Motor, Kia, GM Korea, Renault Korea, and KG Mobility (KGM) on the 2nd, the combined domestic and overseas sales of the five companies last month totaled 672,655 units, down 3.8% compared to the same period last year. Domestic sales decreased by 1.0%, while overseas sales fell by 4.3%.

Hyundai Motor recorded 55,805 units sold domestically, up 3.5%, and 288,019 units overseas, down 5.0%. Total sales decreased by 3.7% to 343,824 units. Kia sold 38,269 units domestically and 211,573 units overseas. Combined sales declined by 4.5% to 249,842 units.

GM Korea sold 1,958 units domestically, down 25.6%, and 60,769 units overseas, up 2.4%. Thanks to strong exports, total sales increased by 1.2% to 62,727 units. KGM sold a total of 7,637 units domestically and overseas. Domestic sales rose 11.5% to 4,535 units, but overseas sales sharply dropped by 43.7% to 3,102 units.

Meanwhile, the best-selling model domestically last month was the Kia Sorento with 6,628 units sold. It was followed by the Hyundai Grandeur (6,120 units), Hyundai Santa Fe (5,314 units), Kia Carnival (4,900 units), and Hyundai Sonata (4,890 units).
