Former Jeonnam Education Superintendent Kim Dae-jung: "Passing the GED is a New Beginning"

Jeonnam Exam Candidates Pass Rate 72%
Foreign Immigrants Also Share the Joy

On the 2nd, Kim Dae-jung, Superintendent of Education for Jeonnam, awarded certificates of passing to more than 50 people, including those who passed the 2nd round of the elementary, middle, and high school equivalency exams and their families.


This year, a total of 729 candidates took the 2nd round of the Jeonnam Office of Education's elementary, middle, and high school equivalency exams, with 525 candidates, accounting for 72% of all test takers, passing the exams. The oldest passers were Im (74) for elementary school, Park (70) for middle school, and Kim (73) for high school, all receiving their certificates at an age over seventy.

Superintendent Kim congratulated the successful candidates while handing out the certificates and shared in their joy. Members of the Mokpo City Family Center, Boseong County Family Center, and the Gwangju-Jeonnam Equivalency Exam Alumni Association also attended to celebrate their success.


One successful candidate, who came from a migrant background, said, “I came to Korea from China in 2005 and have been raising three children for 19 years. I am happy to be able to answer my youngest child’s questions, who just entered elementary school this year, without hesitation. I will study harder and also pass the middle school equivalency exam.”


Superintendent Kim Dae-jung stated, “The achievement of passing the equivalency exam is not the end of studying but another starting point, and the certificate is a symbol of the challenge toward greater learning. The Office of Education will provide various educational programs suited to the changing times to support the passers in pursuing their future dreams.”
