Ten Years of Scholarships to Departments Graduated by Children and Their Spouses

The family of the late Professor Jung Changkeun, who dedicated decades to nurturing future generations as a professor in the Department of Business Administration at Pusan National University, has donated 100 million KRW to their alma mater in honor of their deep connection with the university. This connection spans nine family members, including Professor Jung himself, his four children, and their spouses, all of whom are Pusan National University alumni.


Pusan National University (President Choi Jaewon) held a donation ceremony on the 2nd at the university headquarters to commemorate the contribution of 100 million KRW from the family of the late Professor Jung Changkeun of the Department of Business Administration.

The family of the late Professor Jung Changkeun decided to make the donation in remembrance of his passion for education and his affection and connection to Pusan National University. The university stated that the donation would be used with care to support the academic pursuits and development of future students.


Professor Jung Changkeun, an alumnus of the Department of Business Administration, class of '52, served as a professor at his alma mater for 34 years, dedicating himself to fostering talent. He retired in August 1997 and passed away this August at the age of 92.


The special bond between Professor Jung's family and Pusan National University is particularly noteworthy. Not only Professor Jung himself, but also his four children (three sons and one daughter) and their spouses?all nine family members?graduated from both undergraduate and graduate programs at Pusan National University, making them a true "Pusan National University alumni family."


The eldest son, Jung Juseop, an honorary professor at Pusan National University College of Medicine, graduated from the same college and served as a professor there. He is currently the director of the Cancer Center at Good Gangan Hospital.


The eldest daughter, Jung Sunju, completed her bachelor's and master's degrees in English Language and Literature at Pusan National University. The second son, Jung Dongseop, now a professor of business administration at Kyungsung University, also earned his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in business administration from Pusan National University. The third son, Jung Useop, completed his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering at the university.


Their spouses are also all Pusan National University alumni, having graduated from the Departments of Music, Mechanical Engineering, Dentistry, and Medicine, respectively. The combined period during which Professor Jung's children and their spouses attended Pusan National University totals 57 years, spanning 113 semesters.


After the passing of Professor Jung Changkeun in August this year, the family, reflecting on their long-standing relationship with Pusan National University, decided to donate the development fund in his name to their alma mater.


At the donation ceremony, the eldest son Jung Juseop, honorary professor at Pusan National University, the second son Jung Dongseop, professor at Kyungsung University, the third son Jung Useop, CEO of Techmac, and son-in-law Lee Deugwoo, professor in the Department of Nano-Mechatronics Engineering at Pusan National University, were in attendance. On behalf of the university, President Choi Jaewon, the head of the Department of English Language and Literature, the associate dean of the College of Business Administration, the head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and the secretary general of the Development Fund Foundation expressed their gratitude.


The donated development fund will be used to provide annual scholarships of 2.5 million KRW for ten years to the departments where the family studied: Medicine, English Language and Literature, Business Administration, and Mechanical Engineering.


President Choi Jaewon of Pusan National University stated, "The dedication and passion for education left behind by Professor Jung have resulted in this beautiful achievement, which will greatly inspire future students. This donation will serve as a foundation for the university's future talents to focus on their studies and achieve their dreams. We will long remember and carry on the noble intentions of Professor Jung Changkeun's family."
