President Park Minwon: "Stepping Up as a World-Class University"
Changwon National University announced on the 2nd that it held a 2024 Glocal University Implementation Plan Business Briefing at Insong Hall on the second floor of the university headquarters.
President Park Minwon presided over the briefing to ensure the swift promotion of implementation tasks and achievement of goals following the selection as a Glocal University.
The business briefing, attended by executives, department heads, team leaders, and staff, included in-person departmental presentations, Q&A sessions, and a general review by the president.
President Park stated, "Through the Glocal University implementation plan, Changwon National University received high praise for outlining plans to establish a grand governance for higher education integration in Gyeongnam, focusing intensively on specialized fields such as DNA+ (Defense, Nuclear, Autonomous manufacturing) industries, and fostering DNA+ talent through a higher education plan that breaks down all boundaries."
He added, "Through the Glocal University project, we will strive to revitalize the local economy, prevent youth outflow, and become a leading research-oriented university model based on regional industry. Even after the five-year Glocal University project ends, let us all concentrate our efforts so that the university remains sustainable and rises to the top 20 in the QS Asia Rankings in specialized fields."

Previously, Changwon National University proposed university innovation through integration with Gyeongnam Provincial Geochang College and Gyeongnam Provincial Namhae College, as well as alliances with Korea Lift College and government-funded research institutes such as the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute and the Korea Institute of Materials Science. As a result, it was finally selected as a 2024 Glocal University by the Ministry of Education and the Glocal University Committee on August 28.
Changwon National University plans to: ▲ establish the Gyeongnam Higher Education Grand Integration Belt (GEGI), ▲ focus intensively on specialized fields such as DNA+ (Defense, Nuclear, Autonomous manufacturing) industries, and ▲ actively promote a higher education plan that breaks down all boundaries for DNA+ talent development, achieving innovation that dismantles internal and external barriers within the university.
Through this, 1,000 DNA+ customized talents?referring to fields such as Defense, Nuclear, Autonomous Smart Manufacturing, Data, Network, and Artificial Intelligence?will be nurtured in close connection with local industries through the UGRIC model.
The university will establish and operate the Gyeongnam Changwon Institute of Science and Technology (GCIST), and foster globally minded, boundaryless talents by building a global higher education belt.
By establishing the Glocal Education Talent Center, the university will manage the educational objectives and strategies of the Glocal project and actively foster convergence talents through immersive convergence education.
Additionally, the university plans to gather opinions from students, faculty, staff, and local residents on each university's detailed specialization fields and implementation plans, and proceed with integration with the two provincial colleges.
