"In the latter half of the year, Changwon Special City will focus all administrative efforts on creating tangible changes that will make citizens' daily lives happier."
Nam-pyo Hong, Mayor of Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam, emphasized this during his first conversation with citizens of the year, held on the 2nd in Masanhappo-gu.
Changwon Special City Mayor Hong Nampyo is explaining community-based projects to citizens of Hapogu.
Changwon Special City stated that at the citizen dialogue held in the main conference room of Masanhappo-gu, Mayor Nam-pyo Hong, National Assembly member Hyung-du Choi, Masanhappo-gu Office Director Chang-yeol Kang, and various department heads were present for the citizens. Over 500 citizens, about 200 more than last year, attended the event, showing great interest in city administration.
The key theme of this citizen dialogue was undoubtedly citizen-centered, practical projects. Since the beginning of this year, Mayor Hong has made the discovery of such practical projects that can accumulate changes in daily life a core city administration task. He personally led months of in-depth discussions with district office directors, refining the framework and details of these projects. The projects announced on this day are the result of those efforts.
On this day, Mayor Hong personally explained, using a PPT, the innovative growth projects that will lead Masanhappo-gu into a new future, as well as practical projects that will bring visible changes now.
Mayor Hong explained the progress and future plans for major issues such as the construction of Masan Marine New Town, the confirmation of the direction for the Masan Bay Grand Design, the full-scale promotion of the Gusan Marine Tourism Complex project, and the initiation of the Flower Land project. Regarding the recent issue of how to utilize the Lotte Department Store Masan branch site, he made it clear that it will be used to create new growth engines for the region and firmly stated his position to prohibit residential apartments on the site.
Following this, Mayor Hong explained the practical projects that will be prioritized in the latter half of the city administration.
The citizen-centered projects for Masanhappo-gu include: the construction of a new pedestrian path at Bambatgogae, a wish of residents for 18 years; installation of a roundabout near the main gate of Wolyeong Marine A Xiang Apartment to resolve transportation inconveniences for Wolyeong Village residents; expansion of the village access road for Durung Village in Hyundong, a civil complaint pending for 12 years; and expansion of park golf courses reflecting the elderly population structure of Masanhappo-gu. In total, 58 projects across 5 sectors are planned, with a total investment of 34.5 billion KRW.
While explaining the Yangdo Angil maintenance project in Jindong-myeon, Mayor Hong emphasized, "Even island areas are not excluded from practical projects," highlighting that these projects are designed to reflect the voices of local residents as much as possible.
The citizen dialogue that followed was directly presided over by Mayor Hong, who divided the area to ensure citizens could speak fairly and took questions in turn. Various suggestions were made, such as "maintenance of the Muhaksan Dulle-gil trail," "road resurfacing," and "reorganization of public transportation systems in rural areas."
Mayor Hong consistently listened empathetically to residents and promised to actively work toward solving their problems. He also instructed the department heads present to devise measures for various issues on the spot.
One citizen who attended the event said, "For over 10 years, I have filed multiple civil complaints and visited relevant agencies to express my inconveniences, but there seemed to be no solution. I was very happy to see that our long-standing village wish was included in the mayor's announcement. I hope that, along with the big projects that will become future growth engines, the practical projects that can be felt right in front of my house will definitely be realized."
Concluding the citizen dialogue, Mayor Nam-pyo Hong of Changwon said, "Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to be here. I will thoroughly review and consider every single issue you raised today and respond with good results."
