Biden "I'll Support You" vs Trump "Enjoy It"
As the TV debate between U.S. Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz, Governor of Minnesota, and Republican vice presidential candidate Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio was underway, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump engaged in an "off-stage cheerleading" battle.
Before the debate began on the 1st (local time), President Biden called Governor Walz "Coach" on Facebook and wrote, "I got your back tonight!"
President Biden continued, "Tonight, America will see a strong, principled, and capable leader whom I have known for a long time," emphasizing, "The people will see you (Governor Walz) and Kamala in comparison to the opponent."
Former President Trump showed a relaxed demeanor, advising his running mate to enjoy the TV debate. Visiting Wisconsin for a campaign event that day, Trump responded to reporters' questions about what advice he gave Senator Vance by saying, "I told him to enjoy it." He then praised Senator Vance as a "very hard worker," a "real warrior," and a "brilliant guy."
Previously, Democratic presidential candidate Biden and Republican presidential candidate Trump faced off in their first TV debate on June 27, before Biden withdrew from the presidential race. That contest ended with Trump declared the "winner," but in the subsequent TV debate between Vice President Kamala Harris, who took over Biden's baton, and Trump, Harris was judged the "loser."
Meanwhile, according to a poll released on the 24th of last month by CNN and SSRS, Vice President Harris recorded a 48% approval rating, slightly ahead of former President Trump’s 47%. The survey was conducted among 2,074 registered voters nationwide, with a margin of error of ±3%. On the same day, a poll released by Reuters and Ipsos showed Vice President Harris’s approval rating at 46.61%, significantly ahead of former President Trump’s 40.48%, outside the margin of error of ±4%.
