Kia Unveils Hydrogen Tactical Vehicle for the First Time at Defense Exhibition

Kia announced that it will showcase several special vehicles at the 2024 Korea International Defense Industry Exhibition held at Gyeryongdae in Chungnam for five days starting from the 2nd.

They will unveil the medium standard 5-ton vehicle (KMTV) and the hydrogen light tactical vehicle (ATV) in real form for the first time in the world. The medium standard 5-ton vehicle can cross a river with a water depth of 1 meter alone and can drive on slopes with a 60% gradient and 40% lateral slope. It can transport 22 troops (excluding 3 in the driver's cabin) or 5 to 10 tons of cargo. Developed with a platform-based chassis structure, it can be manufactured in various forms depending on the intended use. It is scheduled to be supplied to the Republic of Korea Armed Forces starting next year.

The hydrogen ATV is an eco-friendly light tactical vehicle powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. Compared to conventional internal combustion engine vehicles, it generates less heat and noise, reducing the risk of exposure to the enemy. With a lightweight body that removes the roof and doors, it is capable of air transport, and the company expects it to assist military missions such as deep penetration operations behind enemy lines based on its excellent mobility and operational capability.

During the event, three types of small tactical vehicles (KLTV) will also be exhibited. Developed with a bare chassis platform structure, various specialized variants can be produced according to specific usage purposes. These vehicles are exported to various countries in Southeast Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America, in addition to the Korean military. Recently, they were selected as new vehicles in the Polish military vehicle replacement project. During this event, a wildfire firefighting vehicle, an improved ambulance, and an AI-integrated statistical surveillance system based on the small tactical vehicle were also exhibited.
