On the 30th, JTBC reported an interview with an acquaintance of Park Daeseong. Acquaintance A described Park Daeseong by saying, "When he drinks, his eyes and everything change," adding, "He becomes somewhat aggressive." He also added, "Whenever he drank, he always got into quarrels with people." It was also understood that Park Daeseong recently broke up with his girlfriend and, as his business was not doing well, the frequency of his drinking increased. Furthermore, it was reported that Park Daeseong has a past record of violence for assaulting someone while heavily intoxicated.
Earlier, on the 26th of last month at 12:44 a.m., Park Daeseong chased and killed high school student Ms. B (18) on a street in Jorye-dong, Suncheon City, as she was returning home. Despite losing a slipper while fleeing, he wandered barefoot for 1.5 km. He also got into an argument with a passerby, and police who arrived recognized his description and arrested him. Ms. B lost consciousness and was transported to the hospital but ultimately passed away. It was reported that Ms. B had gone out to buy medicine on behalf of her disabled father, which added to the tragedy.
CCTV footage showing Park Daeseong fleeing barefoot nearby 13 minutes after killing Ms. B was also released. At that time, Park Daeseong was seen smiling broadly with the corners of his mouth raised, which sparked national outrage.
He appeared at a pre-trial detention hearing on the 28th of last month and said, "I drank about four bottles of soju at the time of the incident, so I don't remember," but added, "Since all the evidence has come out, I will not deny the crime."
On the 30th of last month, the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency held a personal information disclosure review committee and decided to disclose Park Daeseong's personal information. The committee judged that the case met the requirements stipulated by the 'Serious Crime Personal Information Disclosure Act,' including the cruelty of the method, serious damage, the public's right to know, and prevention of recidivism. Park Daeseong's personal information is scheduled to be posted on the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency website for 30 days until the 29th of this month. The police plan to complete supplementary investigations to accurately determine the motive and then send Park Daeseong to the prosecution.
