The Jeollanam-do Police Agency held a personal information disclosure committee meeting with more than seven internal and external members that afternoon and decided to disclose Park Daesung's name, age, and photo on the Jeollanam-do Police Agency website for 30 days.
The committee judged that the requirements stipulated by the "Serious Crime Personal Information Disclosure Act," such as the brutality of the method, serious damage, the public's right to know, and prevention of recidivism, were met and decided to disclose the personal information.
This is the first case in which the Jeollanam-do Police Agency has disclosed the personal information of a suspect in a heinous crime.
The photo of Park Daesung disclosed on this day is a mugshot taken by the investigative agency at the time of arrest for the purpose of recording the criminal's appearance.
Park Daesung was arrested by the police on suspicion of stabbing and killing A (18) multiple times with a weapon on the street in Jorye-dong, Suncheon-si, around 12:44 a.m. on the 26th.
After the crime, Park Daesung fled but wandered the streets in a drunken state, got into an argument with a passerby, and was arrested by the police who responded to the report around 3 a.m., about 2 hours and 20 minutes after the incident.
Operating a delivery food restaurant, Park Daesung took a weapon from his store and went outside on the day of the incident. He chased B about 800 meters and attacked her from behind as she was passing by, according to the investigation.
Park Daesung targeted A, whom he did not know personally, but has not stated a clear motive during the police investigation.
He claimed to the police, "I broke up with my girlfriend and business was bad, so I drank about four bottles of soju. I do not remember the circumstances of the crime."
The police plan to complete supplementary investigations, including identifying the motive, and send Park Daesung to the prosecution.
