Domestic and International Telecom Companies Promise Mutual Cooperation... "AI Era, Digital Innovation"

Major domestic telecommunications companies have issued a joint statement for the development of the telecommunications industry in collaboration with the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) and the European Telecommunications Network Operators' Association (Connect Europe).


The Korea Telecommunications Operators Association (KTOA) signed the joint statement on the 30th together with GSMA and Connect Europe, presenting goals and visions for the sustainable development of the telecommunications industry and pledging mutual cooperation to achieve them.


The statement includes ▲strengthening competitiveness for sustainable growth ▲establishing a virtuous cycle of infrastructure investment ▲innovation and technological advancement ▲building safe and reliable networks ▲collaboration on AI-based business models ▲enhancing cooperation between satellite technology and mobile communications ▲strengthening user benefits through digital innovation ▲expanding joint research and solidarity.


Following the joint statement, the 'Global Telecom Value-Up Forum' was held. Panelists included GSMA, Connect Europe, Germany's Deutsche Telekom, Spain's Telef?nica, as well as SK Telecom, KT, LG Uplus, SK Broadband, and the Citizens' Coalition for Economic Justice. They conducted presentations and discussions on the theme of 'The Value and Challenges of the Telecommunications Industry in the Era of Digital Innovation.'


At the forum, KTOA presented on 'The Development and New Leap of the Mobile Telecommunications Industry' in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of mobile telecommunications introduction in Korea, and Dr. Roslyn Layton from Strand Consult gave a presentation on 'Global Standardization of Network Usage Fees.'


Various opinions were discussed on key issues such as the development of new business models (BM) in the telecommunications industry and the surge in internet traffic due to AI activation. This was followed by in-depth discussions on policy directions related to network investment costs in different countries.


Lisa Fur, Secretary-General of Connect Europe, emphasized the importance of networks, highlighting the need to strengthen infrastructure for digital transformation and the significance of global cooperation and sustainable network investment to respond to increasing data traffic.


Lee Sang-hak, Vice Chairman of KTOA, stated, "In the rapidly changing industrial environment such as the rapid development of AI technology, redefining the direction of the telecommunications industry and establishing new strategies is not a choice but a necessity," adding, "The telecommunications industry must create new opportunities and achieve sustainable growth through global cooperation and solidarity."
