36 Citizen Jurors Selected for Pledge Review Among Uljugun Residents Aged 18 and Over
On the 30th, Ulju County in Ulsan City held the "2024 Ulju County Pledge Citizen Jury Appointment Ceremony and First Meeting" to review the implementation of the 8th popularly elected administration's pledges and deliberate on proposed adjustments to those pledges.
The Citizen Jury for Pledges plays a role in directly evaluating the progress of pledged projects and deliberating on any changes to those pledges. This not only enhances the objectivity and reliability of the pledge implementation process but also signifies the creation of a new platform for citizen participation, with residents becoming the main agents in managing pledged projects.
Ulju County, in cooperation with the Korea Manifesto Implementation Headquarters, finally selected 36 citizen jurors for pledges by conducting a random ARS draw and phone interviews among Ulju residents aged 18 and older, taking into account age, region, and gender.
The selected citizen jurors for pledges participated in the meeting, which included the appointment of pledge jurors, education on the manifesto movement and the citizen jury system, as well as the formation of subgroups and discussions. Starting with this first meeting, a total of three sessions will be held until October 28, featuring debates and deliberations.
Having completed the formation of five subgroups at the first meeting, the jury plans to present final recommendations on the deliberation agenda through Q&A sessions with relevant departments and subgroup discussions in the upcoming second and third meetings.
County Mayor Lee Soongul stated, "Rather than simply fulfilling pledges, it is important to listen to diverse opinions during the process and implement policies that Ulju residents can truly feel in their daily lives," adding, "We will do our utmost to transparently implement pledges by actively reflecting the opinions of the citizen jury in the implementation process."
This year, Ulju County was selected as an Outstanding Institution for the second consecutive year by receiving an SA grade in the "8th Popularly Elected Basic Local Government Head and Information Disclosure Evaluation." In July, the county also enhanced policy credibility by winning the top prize at the "National Local Government Head Manifesto Best Practices Competition."
