Suseong District in Daegu (District Mayor Kim Daekwon) held the opening ceremony for the Suseongmot Picture Book Library on the 29th and officially began its operation.
After reflecting on suggestions received during the two-month trial period that started in August and making necessary improvements, the library officially opened.
The Suseongmot Picture Book Library was established on the site of the former administrative welfare center in Dusan-dong, Suseong District, Daegu. The 437.99㎡ space features a reading room, outdoor reading area, program room, and more.
With its beautiful architecture and sophisticated spatial design, the library has received a great response from residents. It houses over 5,100 picture books by renowned domestic and international authors, catering to all age groups from children to adults.
However, due to the nature of picture books, borrowing is restricted and books can only be read inside the library.
Going forward, the Suseongmot Picture Book Library plans to offer a variety of programs and services, including lectures and exhibitions by leading domestic and international picture book authors, humanities classes on picture books, and reading culture activities linked to Suseongmot.
On October 12 at 3 PM, a commemorative book talk lecture will be held by author Lee Jieun, who won the grand prize in the picture book category at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair for "Iparapanyamunyamu."
The library is open from 9 AM to 9 PM on weekdays and weekends (Tuesday to Sunday), except Mondays. It is closed on Mondays and public holidays.
Kim Daekwon, Mayor of Suseong District, Daegu, said, "I hope many people will use the Suseongmot Picture Book Library, which harmonizes beautifully with the scenery of Suseongmot," and added, "We will continue to strive to meet the cultural needs of our residents."
