Paju-si Hosts 'Yulgok Yi Yi Talk Concert'

On the 30th, Paju City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it will host the 'Yulgok Yi Yi Talk Concert' by inviting popular Korean history lecturer Choi Tae-sung on October 10th at 7 PM at the Unjeong Happiness Center Grand Theater to celebrate the 34th Yulgok Cultural Festival.

This event, which offers free admission on a first-come, first-served basis, will feature a lecture lasting about an hour focusing on the life of Yulgok Yi Yi, his philosophy and thoughts that earned him respect from many scholars of his time, and the study methods of Yulgok Yi Yi, the "God of Study," who achieved top honors nine times in the state examination.

Paju City is promoting historical education by inviting renowned lecturers as part of a branding project associating 'Yulgok Yi Yi = Paju' to widely publicize the Paju Yi Yi Historic Site, which is Yulgok Yi Yi's hometown, place of scholarly activity, and a national historic site. Last October, the city submitted a letter to the Bank of Korea requesting the inclusion of the Paju Yi Yi Historic Site on the back of the currency, and in May this year, it registered the trademark for Ocheonwon Bread with the Korean Intellectual Property Office.

Kim Kyung-il, mayor of Paju City, said, "Having Yulgok Yi Yi, a representative figure of Paju and one of Korea's foremost sages, is a great pride for Paju," adding, "I hope that Yulgok Yi Yi's philosophy and thoughts will continue to be passed down through this lecture."
