Geochang County in Gyeongnam announced on the 30th that it held the opening ceremony of the Geochang Hanmadang Grand Festival and the Citizens' Day commemorative ceremony at the main stage of the Sports Park, under the slogan "The Taste, Style, and Excitement of Geochang: Grand Imagination."
The commemorative ceremony was held in grand fashion, attended by over 2,000 citizens and guests including County Governor Koo Inmo, Geochang County Council Chairman Lee Jaeun, Citizens' Day Event Promotion Committee Chairman Kim Chilsung, National Geochang Residents' Association President Shin Cheolbeom, and Acting Governor of Gokseong County Lee Gwidong.
Notably, this year's ceremony was further enriched by congratulatory messages from many places, including National Assembly Intelligence Committee Chairman Shin Seongbeom, who could not attend due to parliamentary commitments, Governor Park Wansu, and Geochang's sister and friendship cities: Ningxiang in China, Gokseong County in Jeonnam, Gangdong District in Seoul, Yeongdo District in Busan, Suseong District in Daegu, Seocho District in Seoul, Nam District in Ulsan, Jongno District in Seoul, Hwasun County in Jeonnam, and Yangpyeong County in Gyeonggi.
The event proceeded with the opening declaration, recitation of the citizens' charter, commemorative speeches and congratulatory remarks, a commemorative ceremony, a video congratulatory message, and the singing of the citizens' song. The festive atmosphere was further heightened by performances from popular singers Hong Jinyoung, Kang Jin, Kim Suchan, and Chae Yoon.
In his commemorative address, Governor Koo Inmo expressed gratitude to the citizens for major county achievements such as ranking first in population among counties in the province, advancing as the center of forest and ecological tourism in Korea, and securing the selection of a crematorium site and confirmation of national budget support.
He also stated, "By establishing sports facilities in the second Sports Town and the second Changpowon, we will create a healthy environment for community sports. We will also steadily pursue key issues closely related to citizens' lives, such as building a medical welfare town to guarantee citizens' health rights, expanding roundabouts for transportation convenience, and addressing the shortage of agricultural labor."
Governor Koo said, "We have prepared a rich and fulfilling festival for the citizens, so please enjoy it to the fullest over the next four days," adding, "Myself and over 800 public officials will do our utmost to serve so that citizens can live more happily and comfortably."
