Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that it will hold the ‘2024 Creative×Seongsu’ festival throughout Seongsu-dong for seven days from October 7 to October 13.
‘2024 Creative×Seongsu,’ with the slogan “Interwoven, Boiling, and Overflowing in Seongsu,” is a global cultural creative industry festival created through collaboration between cultural creative companies located in Seongdong-gu and Seongdong-gu itself. It is hosted by the Seongdong Cultural Foundation and organized by the Seongdong Cultural City Center.
Despite being the first event when it was launched last year, ‘Creative×Seongsu’ was held successfully with about 50,000 visitors and participation from over 200 companies and small business owners. This year, more than 300 companies will participate, showcasing a wide spectrum of cultural industries and arts.
Seongsu-dong, where the festival takes place, is currently recognized nationwide as a popular hot place, overflowing with a unique charm where the old and the new coexist. One of the major attractions of this festival is that visitors can enjoy the festival while exploring the alleys of Seongsu-dong, offering a distinctive experience.
‘2024 Creative×Seongsu’ will present 11 diverse programs where visitors can experience future culture.
At S Factory, the largest complex cultural space in Seongsu-dong, the Cultural Creative Industry Fair (CT Fair) will be held. Cutting-edge cultural technology companies and cultural content companies will collaborate to showcase the dynamic and evolving present and future of Seongsu-dong.
▲Global game developer ‘Krafton’ ▲SM Entertainment exclusive composer ‘Kenji’ ▲Global dance studio ‘1MILLION’ ▲Media artist group ‘Silo Lab’ and others will participate, presenting fantastic exhibitions and performances where cultural technology and cultural arts coexist.
At Heyground, a community office for social ventures, the Changemaker Conference will be held. Under the theme of “A Sustainable Tomorrow Created with AI,” three main conferences and six partnership programs will be conducted, highlighting the social responsibility and impact of AI in a balanced manner.
During the festival, ‘Treasure Seongsu,’ a treasure hunt that anyone can enjoy with just a mobile phone regardless of age or gender, will take place throughout Seongsu-dong. Rich rewards will be given each time a treasure is found.
At Understand Avenue and the Knowledge Industry Centers, the Seongsu Art Fair will be held. Visitors can view works by artists based in Seongsu-dong and young artists, and participate in special experiences held in artists’ studios and galleries.
On October 8-9, a craft market featuring over 100 workshops including leather, metal, pottery, knitting, and woodworking will be held at the central plaza of Understand Avenue.
Webtoon industry conferences led by webtoon experts, as well as one-day classes and experience programs such as caricature drawing themed on webtoons, will be operated. The local tour program Trip Seongsu will include architectural tours of Seongsu-dong with architects, travel and experience programs containing stories of Seongsu-dong, and mini tour courses recommended by citizen local creators.
On October 12, vehicle access will be restricted on some sections of Seongsu-iro and Yeonmujang-gil in front of Exit 3 of Seongsu Station, transforming roads once crowded with people and cars into cultural spaces with rest and music. Outdoor fashion shows featuring high school designers and models, jazz parades, and passionate performances by established and emerging artists will be held.
Food events are also prepared. Popular restaurants in Seongsu-dong will offer food and beverage giveaways and discount events. PUBG Seongsu (Wangsimni-ro 4-gil 5), near Seoul Forest, will decorate its interior with a popular game Battlegrounds concept and hold a retro chicken and beer party.
