The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 29th that during the Korea-Uzbekistan aviation talks held in Seoul from the 26th to the 27th, the bilateral air traffic rights will be increased from the current 10 times per week to 24 times per week. This increase includes 12 weekly flights between the capitals' airports and 12 weekly flights on other regional routes.

The aviation talks were attended by Shim Ji-young, Director of International Aviation at the Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Jamoliddin Nazarov, Director of the Aviation Transport Department at the Uzbek Ministry of Transport.

The expansion of air traffic rights is a measure taken in response to the repeated inconveniences experienced by air travelers from domestic regional areas to Uzbekistan. Accordingly, new routes connecting regional airports to the capital airports of both countries were established. Previously, the only existing route between the two countries was Incheon-Tashkent.

Going forward, conditions will be created to allow travel from regional airports such as Busan and Daegu to Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This will help revitalize regional airports and enhance convenience for air travelers.

Additionally, with the increase in air traffic rights, transit demand can be generated for passengers traveling from Uzbekistan through Korea to Japan, China, Southeast Asia, and other destinations. Furthermore, this supports the expansion of transportation cooperation, including railroads and roads, agreed upon at the Korea-Uzbekistan summit held in Tashkent last June, and can activate human and material exchanges.

This aviation talk was held for the first time in six years since 2018.

Kim Young-guk, Director of Aviation Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "By increasing air traffic rights with Uzbekistan, the most populous country in Central Asia, we have now established a foundation that allows travel to Uzbekistan from regional airports as well. This will contribute to enhancing convenience for air travelers such as travelers and businesspeople residing in regional areas and to revitalizing regional airports."
