Opposition: "'Kim Geon-hee's statement about managing stock accounts personally' is unreasonable"

Spokesperson Written Briefing "Public Anger Is Spreading"

The Democratic Party of Korea criticized on the 28th regarding the allegations of Kim Geon-hee, wife of President Yoon Seok-yeol, being involved in the Deutsche Motors stock price manipulation, stating, "It is irrational and shameless for Mrs. Kim to deny even the part that the court has judged as stock price manipulation," and added, "Public anger is spreading like wildfire."

Spokesperson Hwang Jeong-ah said in a written briefing that day, "The prosecution, which has abandoned even the minimum fairness and neutrality and has degenerated into a private security organization for the presidential couple, has lost the right to speak of judicial justice. The only way to reveal the truth is a special prosecutor," she said.

According to the legal community, Mrs. Kim reportedly testified during a face-to-face investigation by the Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 2 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office in July that she "directly operated" the stock account in her name, which was judged to have been used in the Deutsche Motors stock price manipulation.

The account in question is one of the accounts in Mrs. Kim's name that the first and second trial courts of the Deutsche Motors case explicitly stated was used for market manipulation. Mrs. Kim's statement is interpreted as meaning that she traded stocks independently without instructions or involvement from the stock manipulators.

Spokesperson Hwang questioned Mrs. Kim's statement, saying, "Is it confidence that she alone can escape despite the flood of evidence of stock price manipulation pouring out every day? Or did she provide investigation guidelines to the prosecution who came for a 'royal audience' investigation?"

She continued, "If Mrs. Kim were not the president's wife, she would have been arrested long ago and tried together with her accomplices," and pointed out, "Yet the prosecution treats the president's wife as a sanctuary and does not even touch the side branches."

The Democratic Party is expected to strengthen its offensive not only on the stock price manipulation allegations but also on suspicions that Mrs. Kim interfered in the People Power Party's nominations during the general election. Spokesperson Hwang told reporters the day before, "The possibility that Mrs. Kim intervened in the general election is becoming stronger," and added, "We plan to form a TF or investigation team to uncover the truth related to the 'Kim Geon-hee state power abuse'."
