Sim Jae-guk to Speak at 'Dementia Overcoming Day' Event on 27th

Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Shim Jae-guk) held a commemorative event for ‘World Alzheimer’s Day’ on the 27th at the large conference room on the 4th floor of the Pyeongchang-gun Culture and Welfare Center.


This event was held to commemorate ‘World Alzheimer’s Day,’ designated annually on September 21, aiming to improve negative perceptions of dementia in the local community and to form a dementia-friendly social consensus based on a correct understanding of dementia, enabling coexistence with dementia. It was conducted for about 100 participants including dementia patients and their families, as well as residents of dementia-safe villages within the jurisdiction.

"I will make Pyeongchang-gun a dementia-friendly place" On the 27th, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do held a commemorative event for 'Dementia Overcoming Day' in the large conference room on the 4th floor of the Pyeongchang-gun Cultural Welfare Center.

At this commemorative event, elderly residents from dementia-safe villages (Pyeongan 1-ri, Mitan-myeon; Jeongpyeong 2-ri, Yongpyeong-myeon) and elderly residents from Ha 5-ri, Pyeongchang-eup were invited to participate in various programs such as ▲ dementia management project promotion booths ▲ dementia patient art exhibitions ▲ photo zones ▲ volunteer performances by visiting cognitive rehabilitation instructors ▲ special performances by professional MCs (singing and comedy), aiming to build empathy.


Additionally, the Pyeongchang-gun Dementia Safety Center, selected as an excellent institution for community dementia management projects in 2024, will receive the Presidential Citation. Along with this, five individuals including dementia-leading organizations actively participating in dementia prevention publicity activities, visiting cognitive rehabilitation instructors, and residents of dementia-safe villages will be awarded the Pyeongchang-gun Governor’s Plaque of Appreciation.


Shim Jae-guk, Governor of Pyeongchang-gun, stated, “We will make every effort to become a more dementia-friendly Pyeongchang-gun by strengthening dementia prevention and patient support in the local community.”
