After retiring, Cheon Su-jeong moved to Canada with her husband. She confessed, “In Korea, I only felt anxious. Although I received rookie awards from two broadcasting stations right after my debut, I was actually sick inside.”

She said, “In the midst of workplace violence, I felt like a small boat facing a huge iceberg. I even fled to Australia to escape, tried other jobs, and sought counseling to forget, but the traumatic time haunted me for a long time and tormented me.”

She went on to describe the abuse she suffered at the time: “There was excessive physical and verbal violence, humiliations that were hard to accept as a woman, and group bullying.” She added, “When I think of those who shouted at me saying they hated hearing my voice in my early twenties and laughed mockingly, my heart still races and aches.”

She continued, “I couldn’t endure it any longer and wanted to leave. I felt I couldn’t live unless I quit my job immediately. I really think it was the right decision to quit.”

She then mentioned the reactions of some people after she left the entertainment industry. Cheon Su-jeong said, “Some called me a loser, but I had to find the lost me. I still can’t watch Korean TV programs where the comedians who bullied me appear.” She revealed, “The time I lived trembling with fear and terror, not as the perpetrator but as the victim, now feels meaningless.”

Finally, she said, “Now I can openly explain why I quit being a comedian and why I had no choice but to leave the entertainment industry. The best revenge is forgiveness. I am trying to forgive. I am happier now living an ordinary life than I was during those glamorous times.”

Cheon Su-jeong debuted in 2008 as an MBC public recruitment comedian and won the Rookie Award in the Comedy and Sitcom category at the MBC Entertainment Awards the same year. She also received the Rookie Comedian Award in the Drama and Broadcasting category at the Korea Culture and Entertainment Awards.
