Autumn Festival Held from October 11 to 27 at Myeongseongsan Eoksae Grass Colony and Sanjeong Lake Area
From October 11 to 27, the 27th Pocheon Sanjeong Lake Myeongseongsan Silver Grass Festival, a representative autumn festival of Pocheon, will be held at the Myeongseongsan silver grass colony and Sanjeong Lake area in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province.
According to Pocheon City on the 27th, Myeongseongsan is one of Korea's 100 famous mountains and is famous as the best silver grass colony in the metropolitan area. Every year, silver grass blooms in a vast field of 150,000㎡ from mid-October to early November.
Also, Sanjeong Lake, a national tourist site located at the foot of Myeongseongsan, lives up to its name meaning "a well in the mountains," creating a spectacular view harmonizing with the surrounding small mountain peaks.
The official opening ceremony of the silver grass festival, now in its 27th year, will be held on October 13 from 12 PM to 3 PM at the Sanjeong Lake Sculpture Park.
On the festival's opening day, October 11, the residents of Sanjeong-ri will hold the ‘Sansinje’ ritual praying for the successful hosting of the festival. The next day, local artists from Pocheon will perform to welcome tourists visiting the silver grass festival site, and as part of inter-city festival exchange, professional artists from the Chungju Cultural Tourism Foundation will also perform on stage.
The opening ceremony will be hosted by comedian Jeong Myeong-hoon, Pocheon City’s public relations ambassador, with a pre-event performance by the Pocheon City Folk Arts Troupe. Following this, the official opening will be announced with a large calligraphy art performance and other opening ceremonies. Trot singers Jin Haeseong and Na Sangdo will perform at the opening celebration to excite the audience.
During the festival, at the Sanjeong Lake Sculpture Park, various events will be held including △ Letters received after one year - Red Mailbox △ Making wishes on silver grass - Lucky Day with Silver Grass △ Sanjeong Lake and Silver Grass Life Photo Studio △ Sanjeong Lake Trail Stamp Tour △ Forced Laughter Contest △ Silver Grass Street Skits △ Lakeside Poetry Exhibition △ Pocheon Tourism Coloring △ Atrio Silver Grass Travel Exhibition and Experience.
Additionally, the ‘Eokmyeong Challenge,’ where participants share videos they took while gazing at the golden silver grass colony on social networking services (SNS), the silver grass workshop, silver grass play, Myeongseongsan forest interpretation, Sanjeong Lake Trail Silence Disco, and Pocheon Gujeolcho (Korean aster) experience, which are local specialized programs led by Sanjeong-ri residents, will also be available.
Yang Dae-jong, the executive committee chairman and head of Sanjeong-ri, said, "We will strive to make the 27th Pocheon Sanjeong Lake Myeongseongsan Silver Grass Festival the best festival in northern Gyeonggi Province where tourists can relax while enjoying the beautiful silver grass and autumn atmosphere of Sanjeong Lake."
Meanwhile, the 27th Pocheon Sanjeong Lake Myeongseongsan Silver Grass Festival was selected as a Gyeonggi Tourism Festival earlier this year. Pocheon City has actively supported the festival’s successful hosting by reorganizing the silver grass colony. Also, to further enhance the festival’s professionalism, the festival program is operated by entrusting it to the Pocheon Cultural Tourism Foundation.
