Busan Urban Corporation Hosts 17th Public Institution Landscape Technology Seminar

Sharing on the Theme of 'Landscape Architecture in the Era of Climate Change and Carbon Neutrality'

Busan Metropolitan Corporation (BMC, President Kim Yonghak) will host the ‘17th Public Institution Landscape Technology Seminar’ at 2:00 PM on October 8 at Exhibition Hall 1 of BEXCO in Busan.

Celebrating its 17th year, the Public Institution Landscape Technology Seminar is a venue for major public institutions in Korea to share and collaborate on landscape technologies. The event is held annually under the auspices of institutions affiliated with the Public Institution Landscape Council.

This year’s seminar, organized by Busan Metropolitan Corporation, will be held under the theme ‘Landscape in the Era of Climate Change and Carbon Neutrality.’ Eight institutions will participate, including Korea Land and Housing Corporation, Korea Expressway Corporation, Korea Water Resources Corporation, Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation, Incheon Metropolitan City Corporation, Incheon International Airport Corporation, and Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation.

The event will be divided into an opening ceremony and two sessions, with each institution presenting on their respective topics. During the opening ceremony, Kim Yonghak, President of BMC, will deliver the opening address, followed by congratulatory remarks from Ahn Cheolsoo, Director of Green City Bureau of Busan, and Choi Heesook, Head of Korea Land and Housing Corporation and Chair of the Public Institution Landscape Council.

The first session will begin with Busan Metropolitan Corporation’s presentation on ‘Exploring Strategies for BMC Green and Blue Carbon Creation,’ followed by presentations from Incheon International Airport Corporation on ‘Introduction of Large Indoor Trees at Incheon Airport,’ Korea Land and Housing Corporation on ‘Pyeongtaek Hambaksan Central Park: Hambak, Neoreun, Maru,’ and Korea Expressway Corporation on ‘Carbon Neutrality and Highway Landscaping.’

The second session will feature presentations from Korea Water Resources Corporation on ‘K-water’s Activities to Enhance Carbon Absorption in the Forestry Sector,’ Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation on ‘Establishing Guidelines for Landscape Spaces in Response to Changes in Leisure Patterns in the New Normal Era,’ and Incheon Metropolitan City Corporation on ‘Landscaping for Zero-Walk Cities in the Era of Carbon Neutrality.’

This seminar is expected to serve as an important opportunity for public institutions nationwide to discuss strategic directions for leading the era of climate change and carbon neutrality, and to seek practical measures for creating sustainable urban environments.

In particular, various innovative landscape technology cases necessary for the transition to a carbon-neutral society are expected to provide practical models for realizing carbon neutrality in the domestic landscape sector and serve as valuable reference materials for future policy direction.

Kim Yonghak, President of Busan Metropolitan Corporation, stated, “Landscape not only serves as an ecological resource that absorbs carbon, but also functions as a key tool in solving environmental issues such as mitigating urban heat islands and restoring ecosystems. BMC will actively introduce various landscape technologies and strategies to achieve carbon neutrality and develop Busan into a global model city that responds to climate change.”
