Jongno-gu Opens 'Job Adaptation Training Center' to Support Independent Living for People with Developmental Disabilities Exterior view of the Vocational Adaptation Training Center for People with Developmental Disabilities.

Jongno-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) will open the public facility "Jongno-gu Vocational Adaptation Training Center for Adults with Developmental Disabilities" (91-1 Samcheong-ro, 1st floor) on the 2nd of next month to support the independent living of adults with developmental disabilities.

This initiative aims to provide vocational education to adults with developmental disabilities who have limited opportunities for vocational training after graduating from school, supporting them in obtaining certifications and achieving economic independence.

The training includes theoretical lessons in barista skills, coffee processing, and baking, as well as various on-site practical courses such as customer service, tidying up, and store management. For individuals with difficulties in language expression and comprehension, the program uses symbolic images and a "Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)" method to facilitate conversations. Additionally, employment-related information will be provided along with individual and parental counseling, community exploration, and experiential activities to support smooth daily living.

Jongno-gu plans not only to operate the Vocational Adaptation Training Center but also to open a community-integrated cafe within three years and develop its own brand, dedicating efforts to creating sustainable jobs and fostering an environment for independence for people with developmental disabilities.

Mayor Jeong Munheon stated, "We hope this center will give hope to adults with developmental disabilities who find it difficult to receive vocational education after reaching adulthood," adding, "We will devise effective support measures to help people with developmental disabilities become full members of our society."
