Award ceremony for 11 exemplary seniors and contributors to elderly welfare, with abundant entertainment including the 'Senior Youth Singing Contest' and an exhibition of works for everyone to enjoy
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) announced that it will hold the "3rd Seongdong-gu Senior Citizens Festival" on October 2, the "Day of the Elderly," at Sowol Art Hall to commemorate the Month of the Elderly in October.
This festival is organized to express respect and gratitude to the elderly in the community and to support a healthy and vibrant life. It is hosted by the Seongdong-gu branch of the Korea Senior Citizens Association and jointly promoted by six senior welfare centers (Wangsimni Doseon-dong, Sageun-dong, Seongsu 1-ga 2-dong, Songjeong-dong, Yongdap-dong Senior Welfare Centers, and Seongdong Senior Comprehensive Welfare Center).
First, the festival will open with a presentation of senior programs. A total of seven teams will showcase their skills and passion through dance, theater, harmonica performances, and more.
Next, the main event, the "Month of the Elderly Commemoration Ceremony," will be held. Eleven exemplary seniors and contributors to senior welfare in the neighborhood will be awarded commendations. A commemorative performance expressing respect and gratitude toward the senior citizens, who are the senior members of the local community, will also take place.
At the "Seongdong Senior Youth Singing Contest," six senior teams (a total of eight participants) who passed the preliminary round will perform lively stages.
This singing contest will be held in a non-competitive format without ranking, allowing the seniors to enjoy the festival without the pressure of winning awards.
In the preliminary round held last September, a total of 89 participants competed in various genres. A congratulatory performance by a guest singer will also be held, offering a special experience of sharing the stage side by side with a singer usually seen only on screen.
At the outdoor plaza, booths promoting senior welfare projects and programs led by Seongdong-gu and related organizations will be set up, and at the Sowol Art Hall exhibition room, 56 creative works including watercolor paintings, calligraphy, and illustrations will be on display (September 25 ? October 2).
Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "I hope the 'Senior Citizens Festival,' held to mark the Month of the Elderly, will become a place of harmony where all seniors can enjoy together, and that it will be an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of respect for the elderly." He added, "We will also actively promote meticulous care policies so that seniors can live a lively and healthy old age."
