British travel and culture magazine 'Timeout' selects
"Seoul's Brooklyn"
"From a hub of leather, printing, and shoemaking to a creative neighborhood"
Seongsu-dong, a hotspot in Seoul, ranked 4th in the 'World's Coolest Neighbourhoods' list selected by the famous UK travel and culture magazine 'Timeout'.
On the 25th (local time), Timeout revealed 38 of this year's 'World's Coolest Neighbourhoods' and ranked Seongsu-dong 4th. Timeout described Seongsu-dong as "the Brooklyn of Seoul (a startup hub in New York, USA)" and evaluated it as "once the center of the leather, printing, and shoemaking industries, now transformed into one of Seoul's most creative neighborhoods."
It added, "Walking through Seongsu-dong, you will find red brick warehouses, old factories, and shipping containers, now home to trendy cafes, boutiques, and galleries." It also noted, "With the opening of the first Korean flagship store of the streetwear brand KITH and the K-fashion platform Musinsa's curated shop 'Musinsa Store Seongsu@Daerim Warehouse,' the area has solidified its status as a fashion hub."
Timeout also introduced specific recommended courses for visitors to Seongsu-dong. First, it suggested, "Start your day with coffee at 'Beart Seongsu' or 'Super Matcha,' then explore numerous vintage and secondhand shops and boutiques, have lunch at 'Grandma's Recipe,' and enjoy tea at 'Magpie & Tiger'." It continued, "After enjoying fresh air at Seoul Forest, try craft beer at 'Amazing Brewing Company'." Additionally, it recommended places like Hotel Poco (hotel) and Musinsa Store Seongsu Daerim Warehouse (shopping).
It also mentioned, "The 'Seoul Drone Show' held at Ttukseom Hangang Park near Seongsu-dong takes place for several weeks every spring and autumn."
Since 2018, Timeout has annually selected the 'World's Coolest Neighbourhoods' through a judging process. This year's number one was 'Notre-Dame du Mont' in Marseille, France. Timeout praised this neighborhood, where artists used to live, for preserving graffiti-covered alleyways. Following were 'Mers Sultan' in Casablanca, Morocco at 2nd place, and Pererenan in Bali, Indonesia at 3rd.
Grace Beard, Timeout's travel editor, said, "The neighborhoods on this year's list share several commonalities, including great places to eat and drink, trendsetting culture, streets, and thriving communities. They also distinctly reflect each city by offering something special that cannot be found elsewhere."
