Park Chandae, Conscious of Yoon's Veto Power... "Chaesangbyeong and Kim Geonhui Special Prosecutor Laws Are a Touchstone for Establishing Justice"

"Yoon, If Rejected Again, There Will Be National Resistance"
Democrats Say If Veto Is Exercised, Re-deliberation on October 4-5

Park Chan-dae, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, urged President Yoon Seok-yeol not to exercise his veto power over the special investigation bills on Chae Sang-byeong and Kim Geon-hee.

Park made these remarks on the afternoon of the 26th at a Democratic Party members' meeting held before the National Assembly plenary session. He stated, "The Chae Sang-byeong special investigation bill and the Kim Geon-hee special investigation bill are touchstones for establishing justice," and added, "Also, the Local Currency Act (Local Love Gift Certificate Act) is a catalyst for restoring people's livelihoods." He warned, "If the president vetoes again, he will face nationwide resistance." The revised Chae Sang-byeong special investigation bill passed the plenary session for the third time after going through the 'National Assembly passage - veto exercise - reconsideration' process twice. The 'strengthened' Kim Geon-hee special investigation bill is the second bill to pass.

The Democratic Party announced that it will adjust the reconsideration schedule depending on when the president exercises his veto power. Yoon Jong-gun, the party's floor spokesperson, told reporters after the members' meeting, "If the bill is sent to the National Assembly on September 30, we will hold a plenary session on October 4," and added, "If it is sent on October 4, although the 5th is a Saturday, we will push for reconsideration."

At the plenary session held that day, there will be votes on 77 livelihood bills agreed upon by the ruling and opposition parties in the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, as well as reconsideration votes on six bills promoted by the Democratic Party. The six bills that President Yoon vetoed and are being re-voted on in the National Assembly include the four broadcasting laws (the Korea Communications Commission Act, the Broadcasting Act, the Korea Broadcasting Promotion Foundation Act, and the Korea Educational Broadcasting System Act amendments), the nationwide 250,000 won support fund bill, and the Yellow Envelope Act (amendments to Articles 2 and 3 of the Labor Union Act), which will be presented in that order.
