Pocheon City Sees Flood of Artifact Donations and Deposits for Establishing Municipal Museum Promotional poster for the 'Artifact Donation and Deposit Campaign' to establish the Pocheon City Museum.

Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Young-hyun) has been conducting a 'Relics Donation and Deposit Campaign' since July to establish the Pocheon City Museum, with relic donations and deposits continuing from various locations within the city.

Ildong Elementary School donated over 300 relics from its local history materials hall, which was operated for educational purposes for students. The donated relics include folk items such as norigae (traditional ornaments), jipsin (straw shoes), hand sickles, and je-gi (ritual vessels), as well as modern and contemporary items like typewriters, TVs, and washing machines.

A representative from Ildong Elementary School stated, “We received relics in Ildong-myeon for educational purposes and created a local history materials hall, but we decided to donate them as it seemed more helpful for the establishment of the Pocheon City Museum and for the utilization and preservation of the relics.”

Relics donated by ordinary citizens also amount to about 100 items, including various types such as items related to the Korean War, je-gi, and mapae (military passes).

A Pocheon City official said, “As of September, over 400 relics have been donated, thanks to the warm interest of the citizens,” and added, “Since the Pocheon City Museum is being established together with the citizens, we hope for continued interest and participation in the 'Relics Donation and Deposit Campaign' from the citizens.”

Meanwhile, anyone who owns relics can apply for relic donation and deposit. Applications can be submitted by visiting (Pocheon City Hall, 87 Jungang-ro, Pocheon City, Culture and Sports Department, Museum Team), by email, or by fax after checking the announcement on the Pocheon City website (www.pocheon.go.kr) and preparing the required documents by October 31.

The submitted relics will undergo an internal review and a review by the Relics Donation Review Committee before the final donation decision is made. Donors will be presented with a donation certificate and a plaque of appreciation, and will be honored by displaying a nameplate at the museum and posting the donor’s name alongside the exhibited donated relics.
