10 Illegal Activities Detected Including Unregistered Campsites and Unauthorized Amusement Facilities

Gyeonggi-do Special Judicial Police Crack Down on Unregistered Camping Sites and Unauthorized Mountain Land Use Campsites The Gyeonggi-do Special Judicial Police Unit uncovered a total of 10 illegal activities related to campsites, including unregistered campsites, unauthorized amusement facilities, unauthorized mountain land use, and unreported rest restaurants.

The Gyeonggi-do Special Judicial Police Unit announced on the 26th that it has uncovered a total of 10 illegal activities related to camping sites, including unregistered camping grounds, unauthorized amusement facilities, unauthorized mountain area use, and unreported rest food establishments.

As the number of people camping and glamping increases, the province conducted an intensive investigation from August 26 to September 6 over two weeks in nine cities and counties within the province, including Gapyeong-gun, Yangpyeong-gun, and Yangju-si, where camping sites are densely located, to prevent various safety accidents at camping sites and to prevent environmental destruction caused by indiscriminate development and operation of camping grounds.

The main violations include ▲ operating camping sites without registration ▲ installing and operating amusement facilities without permission or reporting ▲ altering the terrain in forest areas without obtaining mountain area use permits ▲ operating rest food businesses without reporting, among others.

Business A was caught after creating and illegally operating an unregistered camping site, while Business B was caught for installing and operating amusement facilities such as air bounces without permission from the competent authority.

Business C was caught after damaging forest land and creating a camping site without obtaining a mountain area use permit. Business D was caught for making and selling coffee and tea at a camping site store without reporting the operation of a rest food establishment.

The province plans to send the caught businesses to the prosecution and notify the respective cities and counties.

Gi-do, head of the Gyeonggi-do Special Judicial Police Unit, said, “Illegal activities at camping sites have been continuously occurring with 11 cases in 2022, 15 cases in 2023, and 10 cases in 2024,” adding, “To ensure safe leisure activities for residents and sustainable environmental preservation aligned with the carbon-neutral Gyeonggi RE100 policy direction, we will continue to investigate illegal activities at camping sites.”

Meanwhile, Gyeonggi-do is providing guidelines on legal compliance and instructing that they be posted on-site to prevent violations caused by minor negligence such as lack of awareness or carelessness by business owners.

The Gyeonggi-do Special Judicial Police Unit is receiving reports of illegal activities from residents through its website (gg.go.kr/gg_special_cop) or the Gyeonggi-do call center.
