Easily Verify the Authenticity of 'Disability Registration Card' on Bokjiro Site

Ministry of Health and Welfare to Implement Service from the 30th
Expected to Prevent Fraudulent Claims through Fee Reductions and More

The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on the 26th that starting from the 30th, it will implement a service to verify the authenticity of disability registration cards on the internet site 'Bokjiro'.

Easily Verify the Authenticity of 'Disability Registration Card' on Bokjiro Site

People with disabilities present their disability registration cards to receive fee discounts when using parks, museums, parking lots, etc. However, when the service provider offering the discount is a private business, there has been no way to verify the authenticity of the disability registration card presented by the person with a disability.

From now on, anyone can easily and reliably detect forged or invalid disability registration cards by logging into Bokjiro and entering the name, resident registration number, issue date, and other details shown on the disability registration card.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare expects that this service will help prevent fraudulent claims such as receiving discounts using forged disability registration cards. According to the revised Disabled Welfare Act in February this year, anyone who fraudulently uses another person's disability registration card or an invalid disability registration card will be subject to imprisonment for up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million won.

The disability registration process will also be improved. Starting from the 30th, online applications for disability registration will be available on Bokjiro, and from December, the results of the disability level assessment, which are currently received by mail, can also be checked through the National Secretary notification service (administrative information notification services via private apps such as KakaoTalk and Naver app). Additionally, adolescents with disabilities aged 14 to 18 will be issued disability registration cards with transportation card functions, just like adult persons with disabilities. By the end of next year, mobile disability registration cards will also be available.

Hwang Seung-hyun, Director of the Disability Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, said, "Through the disability registration card authenticity verification service, not only can fraudulent claims be prevented, but the convenience of persons with disabilities verifying their eligibility with the disability registration card is also expected to improve."
