Kakao Partners with Sipdae Yeoseong Ingwon Center to Strengthen Child and Youth Sexual Protection Policies

Kakao announced on the 26th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Teenage Women’s Human Rights Center to strengthen policies for the protection of children and adolescents from sexual crimes.

Under this agreement, the two parties will collaborate on ▲advancing prohibited words for preventing sexual crimes and sharing new crime cases ▲operating a hotline for quick reporting and handling when suspicious criminal activity is detected in open chats ▲providing victim counseling support, among other efforts.

Kakao will receive data on newly coined terms that promote or induce sexual crimes against children and adolescents, as well as new types and cases of sexual crimes based on social networking services (SNS), from the Teenage Women’s Human Rights Center. Using this data, Kakao plans to continuously enhance the prohibited words database in its services to proactively prevent crimes.

Additionally, if the Teenage Women’s Human Rights Center detects violations of child and adolescent protection policies within open chats during monitoring, a smooth cooperation system will be established to enable prompt reporting. A hotline will also be operated to ensure quick processing of reports. Kakao will also provide donations and supplies necessary for the Teenage Women’s Human Rights Center to counsel victims of sexual crimes against children and adolescents.

Son Seong-hee, Kakao’s Youth Protection Officer and Platform Safety Leader, stated, "We will continuously review and strengthen service policies, technologies, and systems to protect children and adolescents in digital spaces. We will actively cooperate with the Teenage Women’s Human Rights Center to create a safe digital environment."
