Town Hall Meeting for Employees on the 25th
Lee Jung-bae, President of Samsung Electronics' Memory Business Division, stated, "The direction we need to take to regain competitiveness has been well established," adding, "Now, execution is required."
On the 25th, Lee held a town hall meeting with employees of the Device Solutions (DS) Division's Memory Business Division, taking the time to communicate and share this message.
Each business division of Samsung Electronics holds quarterly town hall meetings attended by division heads and executives.
When concerns about the crisis in the Memory Business Division were raised by employees at the meeting, Lee advised, "We all need to work together with a greater sense of urgency."
Samsung Electronics has recently lost its leading position to SK Hynix in the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) market, which has rapidly grown due to the expansion of the artificial intelligence (AI) market. Although mass production of the 5th generation HBM (HBM3E) 8-stack product has begun, it still has not passed Nvidia's performance verification threshold. In the 12-stack HBM3E, scheduled for mass production in the fourth quarter, the company has also lost the lead to competitors.
In response to an employee's question about securing talented personnel and measures against workforce attrition, Lee urged, "Please work hard," and requested, "Protect those around you who are considering leaving."
However, it is reported that there may be limitations regarding this year's performance bonuses for DS Division employees. Last year, Samsung Electronics DS Division employees received a 0% performance bonus due to the downturn in the market.
Lee also pledged to improve organizational efficiency by removing barriers between departments. He promised to enhance employee trust in the company by adding interdepartmental communication items to the Management by Objectives (MBO) system for executives in the Memory Business Division.
