"Pathetic Politics of Two Former Prosecutors"
Former People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Seung-min criticized the 'empty-handed' dinner between President Yoon Suk-yeol and Party Leader Han Dong-hoon held on the 24th, saying, "Both the president, who does not know how to embrace and listen, and the party leader, who only plays media games over a 'private meeting,' are petty and pathetic."
On the 25th, Yoo posted on Facebook, "The president and party leadership met and only ate 'beef and pork that our Leader Han likes' before parting ways. The medical crisis was not even mentioned, nor was pension reform," criticizing, "If that's the case, why did they meet?" He added, "There was no discussion of the miserable collapse of self-employed businesses, the crazy housing prices, or household debt?issues affecting people's livelihoods. The Kim Geon-hee special prosecutor law and Chae Sang-byeong special prosecutor law, which paralyze politics of dialogue and agreement, were not mentioned, nor was the public's alienation from the president and the party. Only the people are unhappy," sharply criticizing.
He questioned, "At the very least, shouldn't there have been a unified solution from the party and government to resolve the medical crisis?" and condemned, "This pathetic politics by two former prosecutors is not politics." He pointed out, "Not a single person among the dozens of responsible officials from the party and the presidential office present said a word about the current government failure and public alienation. As the ruling party and government, there was no minimum responsibility, professional ethics, or soul." He added, "Will they only come to their senses after the ship sinks and everything is ruined? By then, it will be too late to regret."
President Yoon and Leader Han held a dinner on the 24th at the fountain garden in front of the Yongsan Presidential Office in Seoul. It is known that there was no discussion related to the medical crisis during the dinner. Leader Han requested a private meeting with President Yoon before the dinner but was refused. President Yoon mainly explained the achievements related to his visit to the Czech Republic and nuclear power, and they discussed the schedule for the upcoming national audit next month. Since there were no opening remarks or toasts from the party leader, which are common at president-ruling party leadership dinners, there was reportedly no opportunity to naturally discuss current issues such as medical reform or the Mrs. Kim issue.
An official who attended the dinner between President Yoon and the People Power Party leadership told Asia Economy on the 25th, "Due to the setup and atmosphere of the dinner venue, Leader Han had no chance to speak about major issues," expressing concern, "I worry about how the public will perceive this." Although the presidential office described the atmosphere as 'harmonious,' concerns about the party-government relationship have surfaced among some close circles.
